Join Matthew Domingo of Wilder Projects and Momentum River Expeditions on Oregon’s Wild and Scenic Rogue River for a farm to table style wilderness gourmet trip. Called “The best meal in the middle of nowhere” by the Oregonian the trips are a unique and amazing way to experience the world famous Rogue River, remarkable artisan meals featuring food and wine from Oregon, and highlight and support local farming.
The Rogue River is an iconic American classic; one of the world’s great summer wilderness trips, a founding member of the National Wild and Scenic River System, and a river with such a grand reputation that in some circles it is simply known as “the Canyon”. It flows through an area rich with pioneer history and lore – some of it surviving to this day. The canyon itself is a stunning wilderness playground that is home to a staggering amount of wildlife and abundant whitewater.
We are extremely proud of our comfortable camping in wilderness places and our guests are surprised by the overall comfort, and the many intangibles that characterize our regular trips. However, on this trip we up the comfort level even more by making it a ‘safari style’ down river trip. Show up to fully set up camps with walk in tents with cots, family style dining under the stars, and of course, Chef Domingo’s seasonal farm-to-table communal feasts. No set up, no take down, just enjoy these wild areas with more time to explore and with some of the creature comforts of home. We normally offer these style trips only as a custom charter option.
For the past 12 years we’ve partnered with Matthew Domingo, a classically-trained chef with a wide range of culinary experiences (director of culinary agritourism at Farm to Fork Event Co., executive chef & culinary director at Traeger Wood Fired Grills, chef & food stylist at Wilder Projects). Matthew’s passion and expertise in off-the-grid cooking and hospitality brings him back to Momentum’s riverside kitchens each spring, summer and fall.
Chef Domingo and his team will be the chefs and hosts, and every afternoon we will float into our comfortable down river safari style river side camp. Each evening’s 5-course meal is designed to flow together in a single theme – which often coalesces around a certain culture, cuisine, cooking-style, and/or set of ingredients. Every menu is unique to each river and each year, meaning that your culinary experience on this trip is 1 of 1. Guests begin with a spread of appetizers and aperitifs, followed by three more hearty courses of scratch-made, seasonal recipes, served “elevated family-style” at a communal table. Meals end with dessert and drinks, capped off with a comfortable night under a sky far away from any city lights.
Note: Email us if you’d like example menus for the Wilderness Gourmet season. Vegetarians, vegans, and guests with most standard food allergies are welcome (note: advance notice of non-omnivore diets and food allergies must be provided).
