Spring and Fall Hells Canyon Rafting Trips

With the hot weather, cool water, long days, amazing flows, and summer breaks – summer is by far the most popular time in Hells Canyon. But thanks to the Snake’s reliable, year-round flows and the canyon’s warm, dry climate, spring and fall are also remarkable times to experience Hells Canyon—each with its own rhythm and feel.

Spring offers long days of beautiful weather with generally warm to hot afternoons, and cooler evenings. The canyon is draped in green and dotted with blooming desert wildflowers—balsamroot, Snake River phlox, paintbrush, and others. It’s a great time for hiking (with generally easier temperatures), there are fewer people on the water, and flows are generally higher, making the whitewater full and fun.

Fall brings shorter days and beautiful weather with warm daytime temperatures and cooler evenings (cooler than summer).  The canyon turns golden, with trees and shrubs tipping into autumn color. The light softens, wildlife is easier to spot, migratory birds move through, and the stargazing is incredible. It’s a peaceful time on the river with ideal hiking temps, fewer people, and consistent flows that keep the whitewater playful and exciting.

We offer special spring and fall pricing for these trips, which can be especially good for smaller charter groups. Give us a call/shoot us an email if you have any questions.
