Hells Canyon of the Snake is the deepest canyon in North America. That makes for an incredible trip! But it also means that, as with rivers like the Main Salmon, there is no direct way from the beginning to the end by vehicle. However we have a few options that will make it easy depending on your travel plans.
Standard Trip Options:
Our standard trip begins and ends in McCall, ID – a beautiful little Idaho mountain town on the shores of Payette Lake. There are a wide variety of lodging options, great restaurants, and a ton of outdoor activities for those who want to spend an extra few days there before or after the trip. It is definitely worth a visit (even when a river trip is not part of the plan). For most this is the easiest option as we take care of all the river transport from and back to McCall (and McCall is such a fun place to visit).
Getting to McCall, ID: The closest major airport is Boise ID (BOI). Boise airport is bustling but small and efficient as well and easy to get in and out of. McCall is about a 2.5 hour drive from Boise and there are numerous shuttle options. There are also two regional carriers, Mccall Aviation and Gem Air, that offer short hop flights (6 to 16 seat planes) to McCall’s regional airport.
Driving Option :
If you are on a road trip you may want to consider meeting us at the beginning of the river portion of the trip near Hells Canyon Dam on the border of Oregon and Idaho. We will help you arrange to shuttle your car to Pittsburg Landing Idaho (or Heller Bar). The shuttle cost including gas is generally $350 to $450 per vehicle. At the end of the trip your car will be waiting for you.
The driving option includes all parts of your river trip, It does not include your vehicle shuttle.
Charter Trip Options:
