Join Momentum River Expeditions and Humble Heron Fly Fishing for one of the country’s most unique fishing experiences. The Rogue River offers the mix of a world-class wilderness canyon, whitewater, old west history, and fall Steelhead fishing. There are options to fish from historic McKenzie style drift boats, fly fishing focused rafts, and to wade on the lower sections of river. And trips can be based from wilderness lodges or comfortable glamping-style riverside camps. The river itself is an iconic American classic, one of the world’s great wilderness trips, and a founding member of the National Wild and Scenic River System.
The Rogue River begins in the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness and Crater Lake National Park. It flows southwest through the Cascades and then touches civilization near the town of Grants Pass. We begin our trip just downstream as the river plunges into the rugged and remote Siskiyou Mountains. Here it becomes a stunning wilderness playground that is home to a staggering amount of wildlife and a fall run of salmon and steelhead. There are narrow canyons of polished rock, cool grotto’s draped in ferns, heavily forested hillsides, big sandy beaches, cascading waterfalls, and hikes up tumbling side streams. Besides the fish, It is also common to see bald eagles, osprey, otter, and black bear.
Our trips are tailored to each guests skill level, and tend to be more active and interactive than many Rogue canyon fishing trips. We fish with and offer casting instruction for single hand or a two-handed rods. Our guiding style is patient, passionate, and knowledgeable and with the attention to detail, craftsmanship, and friendliness that both Humble Heron and Momentum are known for.
The Rogue fishing season runs from early through mid-November and we fish primarily for summer run Fall Chinook Salmon and the famous Rogue River “half-pounder”. These “super charged trout” are sexually immature steelhead ranging from 14 to 24 inches, with some larger fish up to ten pounds. They are small but extremely active and aggressive – making them very fun to catch.
We offer two standard trips styles. One that is lodge based and can be tailored to multiple fishing styles, and one that is camp based and geared more towards fly fishing, accessing the best wading sections, and spey casting. Both trips can be tailored to guests of all fishing abilities. We also offer custom and charter trips and itineraries.
