Why Choose Momentum?

Small trips, personal service, handcrafted quality & attention to detail, and guides who love what they do

As someone who has rafted on commercial trips all over the western U.S. for over 15 years now, I can say without hesitation that your company is the finest outfit I have rafted with.”
– Paul

I know it’s rare, but Momentum is a company that delivers everything they promise. I have been rafting with many outfitters but they set the standard. Great guides, great food, great gear, great times. We had an amazing trip…
– Jon

A Small company with Big goals:

Tatshenshini River Rafting - Dramatic view

We are a small, guide-owned and operated company and our goal is to create world-class outdoor experiences that are consistently among the best run trips anywhere. To show and connect people to wild places in a way that they understand, appreciate, enjoy, and feel comfortable with. To allow even those who never floated a river or spent a night under the stars to feel at ease and truly experience and connect to the place.

“You run the best business and hire the best people I have ever been with on the river. Runner up isn’t even close… Great entrepreneurship, customer service, and execution skills are rare, but you have them all going on inside the same shop”
– Sean

Our Guides and Staff:

We only hire guides with previous experience and many have 15+ years guiding some of the world’s most remote and wild rivers. Top to bottom we have one of the most experienced guide staffs in the world. And our guides are ‘guides’ in the truest sense of the word – equally comfortable running difficult whitewater, cooking a 3 course meal, hosting a riverside wine tasting, keeping track of all the little details that go into making a trip feel comfortable, or playing games with the kids. They are talented, well educated, well traveled, and most importantly, they are consummate hosts that are friendly and warm-hearted. True professionals that find joy in sharing the outdoors and their outdoor experiences with others.  Whether you’re a complete first-timer or someone who has paddled around the world, you will be treated with respect and kindness.

And good outfitters are more than just their guides. From the office, to the warehouse, to the road, to food and gear planning – our guides and guests rely on a diverse and multi-talented staff who all share our common goal – to create world-class outdoor experiences.

“We have traveled with many guide companies in the past including Backroads, Country Walkers, REI, Northwest Frontiers Scotland, Mountain Travel Sobek, etc and can honestly say we have never had a guide any better than Andy. He took great care to make everything run smoothly, accommodated us at every turn, and was always cheerful, patient, and friendly (sounds like the Boy Scout Handbook). Above all he is a genuinely nice guy…”

Our Style:

Our trips are a mix of service, relaxation, excitement, and wild beauty  – a chance to step out of civilization for a short time and step into a more simple and uncomplicated life.

  • You will enjoy our trips in small groups (Unless it is your own big group:)): Our trips often consist of only 10-14 people. And we are well known for running private trips with even smaller groups.
  • Our trips and Itineraries have a handcrafted quality and attention to detail:
When connecting people to wild places, we believe that the feel and the details matter.
  • We pride ourselves on unparalleled personal service:
From our first phone conversation until we drop you off at your hotel, we go the extra mile. Hot soup on cool days and morning coffee or tea brought to your tent – not only will your river trip be the most fun, it will also be the most comfortable.
  • We have built a reputation for innovative and comfortable camping in wilderness places:  From expedition style trips with space and weight limits, to our award winning Safari-inspired base camp trips, to our down river SAFARI STYLE TRIPS, and to everything in between – our goal is to make the camping amazing for as wide a range of people as possible.
  • Part of that is our food – We love food:
Cooking is our second passion and the owner grew up in a restaurant. With creative menus that mix our favorite new dishes from our travels, our food is homemade, diverse, and served with a combination of style and wilderness practicality. Many outdoor companies talk about their meals, but very few match our level of planning and execution.
  • Most importantly, our style is to make people feel comfortable, cared for, part of the family, and at home:
…Like being at a good dinner party

No matter how wild the place, or how new someone is to the outdoors, we want people to feel like they belong.

“This was one of the best trips I have ever taken in my life. It exceeded my expectations. I absolutely loved how your employees and guides take care of everything and how everything is just so perfectly planned. I love the attention to details…. Thank you for existing. Thank you for your vision. And thank you for helping me have an unforgettable 40th celebration. Best river rafting company in the world!”
– Tomas

Our Rivers and Wild Places:

World-class Hiking - Owyhee River Rafting

From the beginning we searched out and chose rivers and places that we love and love sharing with people. And now we are honored to offer trips on many of the West’s most spectacular rivers.

We love extremely remote and wild places. But we also love active days outside followed by good food and drink, unique & comfortable accommodations, and and all shared with friends new and old. And that shows in the variation of our trips. From mild to some of the most difficult rivers run anywhere; from ½ day trips to 12 day wilderness journeys; and from remote and rarely run high adventure expedition style trips to some of the most comfortable outdoor trips in the world.

Although our trips and our company are still small, we offer river adventures with a quality and variety that is rivaled by few.

“It’s not where you are, it’s WHO you are with that really matters. But sometimes, you come across an experience like this and land both where and who for some serious magic. The guides were hardworking, trustworthy and hilarious. The rafting was scary, fun and gorgeous. The camp was home. I came in fearful and left wanting more. Who knew!?!”
– Beth

However, our safari-style trips take that to another level. with options for walk in tents with cots, family-style dining under the stars, three-course dinners, wine tasting – they are truly unique.

Whether it is one of our Safari-style trips, a family trip on the Rogue, or a ½ day with friends  – we make putting together trips for just your group easy.

The Most Polished Rafting Experience Ever – Momentum mixes outdoor adventuring with glamping to create a truly unforgettable experience. First and foremost they strive to provide a top notch eating experience in the middle of the woods, and they actually deliver on that promise. They also setup and take down camp, thus the ‘glamping’ vibes. And those accommodations are awesome. From there every activity is meticulously organized so that you get the most from each moment on and off the river

Award Winning:

Upper Klamath Rafting Safari in Sunset Magazine

Our goals and dedication to quality, innovation, and friendliness has been recognized with awards from local organizations to some of the biggest outlets in the country. While we don’t seek awards (and we are not eligible for many because our marketing budget is so small), the recognition from guests and organizations helps remind us we are on the right track.

Our commitment to our wild rivers:

Our Mission:

To create world-class outdoor experiences that are consistently among the best run trips anywhere.  And to protect our wild places by emotionally connecting our guests to the places that we love and call home

We are not one of those companies that comes up with a mission and then forgets about it. We believe in protecting the places we love – by sharing them and emotionally connecting people to them. This is a guide’s greatest gift to wild places.

We also have a long history of working with local and regional environmental and outdoor access groups. We approach environmental protection opportunities with a sense of pragmatism and collaboration and work to bring parties together to come up with common sense solutions that work for the places and local communities.

We truly believe that rivers (and wild places) are best protected when a wide range of people know and love them.

“Choosing to save a river is more often an act of passion than of careful calculation. You make the choice because the river has touched your life in an intimate and irreversible way, because you are unwilling to accept its loss.”
– David Bolling: How to Save a River

We have fun and love what we do:

In the end it is about unplugging, being with family and friends old and new, and getting outside, getting on the river, or getting on the trail. We believe trips to wild places should be inspiring, relaxing, AND fun : )

We love what we do and it shows in the trips we run.

“The entire Rogue River Hiking trip was ‘life multiplier’ and that was due to your meticulous planning, experience, professionalism, and no lesser word can I use,
Love.
– Chris
