• Rogue River Rafting

  5 "My late mother lived her final two decades of life in Rogue River, Oregon, and each time I drove up from the San Francisco Bay Area to visit her, I would sit by the Rogue River and wonder what the river was doing beyond Grant’s Pass. Three or so years ago, I decided to find out. I signed up with Momentum for a rafting trip that would put me on the river for three days and carry me through its most scenic stretch. The two nights out were to be spent in rustic riverside lodges accessible only by water or on foot (or, in the case of Paradise Lodge, by small plane). I made that first journey with a dozen other amiable folks in heartbreakingly beautiful sunny weather — a wonderful trip led by an amazing river guide, Eric Sol. After that trip, I just had to get back out there on the water, so I signed up again with Momentum for the same rafting tour, this time dragging along my husband on the feeble pretense of it being his birthday present. Same itinerary — but, as it turned out, NOT the same experience. Together with just two other fellas and our superb guide Anna Folks, we froze our butts off during a couple days of unseasonable rain. Yet NOW, when I think back on this most recent trip, all I can remember was the extraordinary natural beauty of the river, the camaraderie of our fellow paddlers, my admiration for our river guide, the comfort of our accommodations, and how grateful I was that second afternoon when we pulled into Paradise Lodge and got our “Rum and Tea” in the bar. It’s nuts, I know, but somehow the extreme weather just made the trip all that more meaningful. And the rain certainly brought out the river otters. We loved it, and we can't wait to do another river with Momentum. Andy, Diego and Derek are fantastic guides; they hosted a fun Rogue wine tasting with local cheeses, the kept us safe on the rapids, setup our tents, played guitar and sang in the evenings - and by the last day we were all sad to leave. Momentum allowed us to choose from a different trip that year or booking the Middle Owyhee for 2019. It was more than worth the wait. The staff is friendly and responsive to pre-trip questions. The guides are experienced, well-traveled and exceptional communicators. The food was excellent and the camps were in great locations on the river. Dealt with unique challenges of our group including medical issues and dietary considerations. Met all our concerns and expectations then exceeded them! My background is in commercial recreation (paddle sports) and outdoor education. Every member of the Momentum team was exceptional! They were excellent at the logistics, wonderful with interpersonal dynamics and spectacular at on water guiding.   5 "I can't say enough about my recent trip with Momentum on the Illinois, it was an adventure in the truest sense of the word. We caught heavy rain at our first campsite (Pine Creek) which spiked the river flow; we basically waited 2 days for the flow to normalize before proceeding into the class IV section. Cooper and Andy were fabulous, hard-working guides with big hearts and a strong commitment to maximizing the experience for the guests. Early in the trip, I had commented that my wife collects stones from various places we've been. Andy remembered that and gave me a cool one to bring back home to my wife at the end of the trip. I was shocked - who does that sort of thing these days? The Klondike Creek campground was like paradise; I did not want to leave! This was not my first trip with Momentum, so I know how good the food is. But this was my first multi-day, and I was astonished how good and varied the food was over the 4 days. I have traveled a ton and have had a multitude of outdoor experiences. In my experience, Momentum provides exceptional service.   5 "We just returned from an epic 4 day Momentum rafting trip down the Illinois river. This was a fantastic experience and an incredible bargain based on all we got for our money. We were led by 2 awesome guides who made us feel pampered even though we were in the middle of a wilderness area. Cooper is a natural leader with a charismatic personality combined with outstanding technical skills. He was a wealth of knowledge about the natural history of the area and was also a great teacher of rafting and paddling technique. Andy is a perfect southern gentlemen who is so strong he should be on the cover of a box of Wheaties.
